Miss Sandra J. Romanowsky, a resident of Lowell, succumbed to cancer on Saturday, October 22, 2016, while in hospice care at the D’Youville Senior Care, following hospitalization.

Born in Lowell, on August 28, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Emil J. and Lillian J. (Drapeau) Romanowsky.

She is survived by her sister and caretaker, Ann M. Romanowsky of Lowell; four brothers and three sisters in law, Dr. Robert E. and Jane Romanowsky of Dracut, Dr. Eric W. Romanowsky and his partner Diane Epstein of Dracut, Dr. Mark B. and Renee Romanowsky of Lowell and Dr. Michael P. and Janice Romanowsky of Hampstead, NH; also many nieces and nephews throughout the US and Canada and their families.

Sandra was reared in the Acre section of Lowell, attending St. Joseph Elementary School and Girls’ High School.  She received a BA in Home Economics from Framingham State College.  She attended graduate school at Cornell University, where she was involved in food study for space travel.  She later earned her MS at UMass Amherst in Food and Nutrition Education.

Sandra had taught at Billerica Junior High and at the Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill.  She had also been a 4-H food agent in Essex County.

She entered into private practice in Lowell as a nutrition consultant and registered dietician until disabled.

She lived in Marblehead (where she had summered with family), Newburyport and Chelmsford.  Sandra had engaged in many sports and liked to cook.  She realized her goal of attending class at the Cordon Bleu in Paris.  She experienced travel in the US, Canada, Caribbean, Europe and Africa.

Sandra recently celebrated her 70th birthday with family and loyal friends at Wingate at Belvidere, her home for several years.  She took pleasure in hearing family news and that of her friends.

 

ROMANOWSKY – Sandra J. Romanowsky.  A funeral mass will be held privately for her family and close friends.  Burial will also be private in the family lot at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.  Those wishing to honor Sandra are asked to make a memorial donation to a charity of your choice.
