Wolfgang Piegorsch Obituary

Wolfgang U. Piegorsch

TYNGSBOROUGH – Wolfgang U. Piegorsch, age 70, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020.  He and his wife, Carol Jean (Belcher) Piegorsch had recently celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary.

Born in Berlin, Germany on March 6, 1950, he was a son of the late Walter and Emmie Piegorsch (née Roland).

He was educated in the Greenburgh Central 7, NY school system and was a graduate of Woodlands High School. He achieved a dual-Bachelor's degree in astronomy and electrical engineering from Tufts University, where he met and married Carol.  At Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, Arizona in the 1970s, he worked on projects such as building the tools for the first confirmations of Dark Matter while earning his Master's Degree from the University of Arizona. In the 1980s, he focused on early microcomputer keyboard design, and computer imaging at Wang Laboratories in Lowell, MA.  He spent the 1990s designing equipment for various biotech companies.  In the 2000s, he was a substitute teacher at Lowell High School, while pursuing a PhD at UMASS-Lowell.

From a young age, Wolf had a strong love of playing soccer, racquetball and basketball, as well as being a life-long sailor - preferring the ocean off Cape Cod.  He was also a gardening enthusiast, and an avid bass guitarist – he could be found strumming a Grateful Dead song at any time of the day or night.  Carol will continue to maintain his Grateful Dead collection.

Wolfgang was a member of the First Congregational Church in Pelham, NH.

He is survived by his beloved wife and three children, Weylin Piegorsch and his spouse Marie of Northbridge, MA, Jessica Piegorsch of Nashua, NH and Walkerius Logos and his spouse Ebyon Logos of Tyngsborough; three grandchildren, Wyatt and Evelyn Piegorsch and Micah Hayes; and a brother, Walter Piegorsch of Tucson, AZ.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Those wishing may make a donation in his memory to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm.  For online condolences, please visit www.tyngsboroughfuneralhome.com.
