William "Will" Hammer Obituary

TYNGSBOROUGH, MA: William D. Hammer, Sr., 75, formerly of Haverhill, passed away after a long illness on June 12, 2024.  William was the husband of Carolanne (King) Peterson.

Born in Haverhill, MA on July 2, 1948, Will was the son of the late Sterling Hammer and Hazel (Lothrup) Chase, along with her husband Harold.

He attended Haverhill Trade School before joining the U.S. Army. He served his country in Vietnam flying CH-5 cranes. Following his discharge he attended Northern Essex Community College’s CEDAR program and worked for many years in water and chemical waste treatment. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserves and the Army National Guard. He attended hundreds of school sporting and theater events in support of his kids and grandkids.

Will loved being on the water, especially if the boat had a sail. He also enjoyed skiing, tinkering with cars, listening to music, and in his younger years playing the banjo. He was mechanically gifted and handy, and freely shared his talents with others.

In addition to his wife of 18 years, Will is survived by his children, Lynn Fyfe and her husband Scott, William D. Hammer, Jr., and Courtney Peterson, and his grandchildren Liam Fyfe, Brenna Fyfe, Kellyn Hammer, and Reagan Hammer. He is also survived by his first wife, Priscilla Moody-Eastman and his step brother Harold “Bill” Chase. He is predeceased by his brother, Sterling Hammer.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather, share stories and celebrate Will’s life on Wednesday, June 19, from 1 to 2:30 pm at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough.
