Wilfred E. Dupuis, age 101, a former longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2024, with his family by his side at Hanover Hill in Manchester, NH. He was the beloved husband of the late Georgette T. (Roy) Dupuis with whom he had been married for 67 years before her passing in 2019.
Born in Lowell on December 5, 1922, he was a son of the late Nelson F. and Rose A. (Therrien) Dupuis. He was a graduate of Lowell trade School and then Lowell Technical College, where he received an associate’s degree in Machine Technology.
Wilfred was an Army veteran World War II having served from 1943 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He then re-enlisted in 1950 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1951. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and received several medals including a Bronze Star Medal, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Korean Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and a Victory Medal.
After returning home from the war, he continued a career with the Boston & Maine Railroad, working as a machinist for over 40 plus years.
He was a longtime active parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church and later the Parish of Saint Rita, and had volunteered and served on many committees and ministries of the parishes including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Holy Name Society and Boy Scouts.
Surviving him are three sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert E. and West Dupuis of Chapel Hill, NC, Roger G and Debbie Dupuis of Chichester, NH and Norman P. and Lorrie Dupuis of Morrisville, VT; seven grandchildren, Roger Jr., Kristi, Jessica, Allison, Adam, Timothy and Grace; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan, Morgan, Carrissa, Elsa, Ruby and Parker; four great-great-grandchildren, Gabriele, Patrick, Avery and Octavia; a sister, Rosemarie Busby of NH; and many nieces and nephews. Wilfred was beloved by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough on Saturday morning, Sept. 21, from 9 to 10 a.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following at 11 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell. Committal services with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Rita Conference, P.O.
