Susan M. (Ferguson) Hanscom

Susan Mae Hanscom, a longtime resident of West Boylston, MA, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022 while surrounded by her family, after a long fight with Alzheimer’s. She was 73.

Susan is survived by her dedicated husband of 50 years, Lewis C. Hanscom of West Boylston, MA and her three devoted daughters, Hillary Celebi and her husband, Chris and their children, Kaden and Rhys of Windham, NH, Elizabeth Dragoumanos and her husband, John and their children, Jack and Mia of Tyngsborough, MA and Melissa Pavao and her husband Jeff and their children, Emma, Gavin and Mason of Westford, MA.  Susan is predeceased by her loving parents Jack and Lydia Fergsuon of Framingham, MA.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Wheaton of Austin, TX and brother John Ferguson of Bradford, MA.

Susan was born on May 25th,1949 in Framingham, MA.  She graduated from Framingham North High School in 1967, Dean Junior College in 1969 and the Boston School of Cytotechnology in 1969.  In 1970, she began a career spanning 40 years as a licensed cytotechnologist.  Many of those years were spent at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester where she was recognized for 25 years of loyal service.  Susan was a career long member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the American Cancer Society.  She absolutely loved her job and was truly passionate every single day that she screened cells for cancer.

Susan “Mimi” loved to babysit her grandchildren.  Jack, Mia, Emma, Gavin, Kaden, Mason and Rhys were her pride and joy.  She spoiled them rotten any chance she got.  When Susan wasn’t babysitting or working, she enjoyed her time with the Thayer Conservatory Flute Choir, her beloved cats and traveling with her family.

Friends and family will be received at the Tyngsborough Funeral Home in Tyngsborough, MA on Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 4 to 6 p.m. A celebration of Susan’s life will take place immediately following at 6 p.m.  A private burial service will be held at Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham, MA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Susan’s honor.
