Rubén E. Herrera, de 96 años, residente de Lowell desde hace mucho tiempo, falleció pacíficamente el viernes 12 de enero de 2024 en High Pointe Hospice House en Haverhill, con su familia a su lado. Era el amado esposo de la fallecida Ana (Granados) Herrera. Nacido en Antioquia, Colombia el 14 de noviembre de 1927, era hijo del fallecido Carlos y Olinda (Jiménez) Herrera. Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1973 y se instaló en Lowell donde él, junto con su esposa Ana, formaron su numerosa familia. Antes de jubilarse, también trabajó en la USCI. en Billerica como ensamblador durante muchos años. Era un hombre de fe firme y estaba dedicado a la antigua Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen y más tarde a la Iglesia de San Patricio en Lowell, donde participó activamente en muchos roles durante muchos años. Rubén disfrutaba bailar, cantar, silbar, tocar la guitarra y ayudar a quien lo necesitara, pero sobre todo, su verdadero amor eran su esposa y su familia. Le sobreviven sus ocho hijos, Cecilia Herrera, Luz Stella Herrera, Rubén Darío Herrera y su esposa Betsy Herrera, Carlos Mario Herrera, Luisa López y su esposo Javier López, Silvia Herrera, Gustavo Herrera y su esposa Sarito Herrera, y Olga Herrera. ; diecisiete nietos, Lilliana Concepcion y su esposo Juan Concepcion, Angela Veloso y su esposo Marcio Veloso, Andres Colorado y su socio Sol Rivas, Sebastian Valderrama y su socio Cristina Molina, Katherine Valderrama y su esposo Julian Molina, Isabel Ortega y su esposo Jonathan Jaramillo, Dustin Herrera y su esposa Mickey Herrera, Stephanie Herrera, Bryan Herrera, Cesar Valderrama y su pareja Claudia Henao y su hijastra Geraldin Bedoya, Fernanda López y su esposo Santiago Giraldo, Diana Ortega, Karla López y su pareja Harry Reardon, Mishelle Herrera, Francheska Herrera, Mariana Agudelo y Samantha Herrera; doce bisnietos, Axel Huertas y su prometida Rebecca González, Brianna Sanchez, Sara Valderrama, Camilo Valencia, Juan Jaramillo, Aryanna Taylor, LB Herrera, Benjamín Herrera, Ariana Colorado, Gianni Giraldo, Mia Giraldo y Nicole Colorado; tres tataranietos, Elijah Huertas, Daryan Huertas y Baby Huertas; y muchas sobrinas, sobrinos y queridos amigos. Los familiares y amigos serán recibidos en TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough, el viernes 19 de enero, de 6 a 8 p.m. Su misa de funeral se celebrará el sábado por la mañana a las 10 a. m. en la iglesia de St. Patrick, 282 Suffolk St, Lowell. Seguirá el entierro en el cementerio St. Joseph, Chelmsford.

 


 

Ruben E. Herrera, age 96, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, with family by his side.  He was the beloved husband of the late Ana (Granados) Herrera.

Born in Antioquia, Colombia on November 14, 1927, he was a son of the late Carlos and Olinda (Jimenez) Herrera. He came to the United States in 1973 and settled in Lowell where he, along with his wife Ana, raised their large family.

Prior to his retirement, he also worked at U.S.C.I. in Billerica as an assembler for many years. He was a man of strong faith and was dedicated to the former Nuestra Señora Del Carmen Church, and later St. Patrick Church in Lowell where he was active in many roles for many years.  

Ruben enjoyed dancing, singing, whistling, playing the guitar and helping anyone in need, but above all, his true love was his wife and family.

He is survived by his eight children, Cecilia Herrera, Luz Stella Herrera, Ruben Dario Herrera and his wife Betsy Herrera, Carlos Mario Herrera, Luisa Lopez and her husband Javier López, Silvia Herrera, Gustavo Herrera and his wife Sarito Herrera, and Olga Herrera;  seventeen grandchildren, Lilliana Concepcion and her husband Juan Concepcion, Angela Veloso and her husband Marcio Veloso, Andres Colorado and partner Sol Rivas, Sebastian Valderrama and partner Cristina Molina, Katherine Valderrama and her husband Julian Molina, Isabel Ortega and her husband Jonathan Jaramillo, Dustin Herrera and his wife Mickey Herrera, Stephanie Herrera, Bryan Herrera, Cesar Valderrama and partner Claudia Henao and step-daughter Geraldin Bedoya, Fernanda Lopez and her husband Santiago Giraldo, Diana Ortega, Karla Lopez and partner Harry Reardon, Mishelle Herrera, Francheska Herrera, Mariana Agudelo, and Samantha Herrera; twelve great grandchildren, Axel Huertas and Fiancé Rebecca González, Brianna Sanchez, Sara Valderrama, Camilo Valencia, Juan Jaramillo, Aryanna Taylor, LB Herrera, Benjamin Herrera, Ariana Colorado, Gianni Giraldo, Mia Giraldo and Nicole Colorado; three great great grandchildren, Elijah Huertas, Daryan Huertas and Baby Huertas; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  

Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough, on Friday, Jan. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 282 Suffolk St, Lowell.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
