Roger Desrochers Obituary

Roger P. Desrochers, age 92, a lifelong resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on May 27, 2024 at D’Youville Senior Care Center, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Juliette M. (Michel) Desrochers, R.N. with whom he shared over 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2021.

Roger was born in Lowell on January 13, 1932, a son of the late J. Emile and Irene M. (St. Hilaire) Desrochers. He was a graduate of Keith Academy and Lowell Technological Institute. Roger also served in the Naval Reserve from 1950 to 1958. Earlier in life he was employed as a television repairman for Beaudry and Monnette Electronics. He then transitioned to the Raytheon Co. for the next 35 years finally serving as a Production Control Supervisor prior to his retirement. He was an active parishioner of the former Ste. Jeanne d’Arc Church, St. Joseph’s Shrine, and later the Parish of Saint Rita.

Roger was devoted to and loved to spend time with his family. He was Pépère to 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, having spent over 12 years coaching and serving on the board of the Pawtucketville Youth Organization. He enjoyed playing cards, singing, and gardening, and took great pleasure in sharing his bountiful yield of tomatoes with others. Among his many volunteer activities, he served on the Parish Council at Ste Jeanne d’Arc, serving as Vice-Chairman for a period of time, and was a member of his church choir, La Chorale Orion, the Spindle City Singers, Le Comité de Vie Franco-Américain de Lowell, and the Knights of Columbus. Roger also volunteered to drive and accompany local AIDS patients to medical appointments that were only available in the Boston hospitals.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Michelle and her husband Joseph Clermont of Lowell, MA, Paul and his wife M. Denise (Boucher) Desrochers of Moultonborough, NH, Gerard Desrochers and his wife Ileana Blanco of Houston, TX, Evelyn and her husband David Quigley of Westport, CT, William and his wife Linda (Kirsch) Desrochers, Robert and his wife Kristin (McLaughlin) Desrochers of Chelmsford, MA, and Colette Desrochers and her husband Peter Langmuir, of Cherry Hill, NJ.

He was a dear friend to many including his brother Richard and his wife Earlene Desrochers, his sister-in-law Gloria Desrochers, and his lifelong friend Roger “Sam” Boucher; as well as an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Raynal, his brother Norman and his wife Barbara, and his brother Roland and his wife Judith Desrochers.

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving service provided by the numerous aides who assisted him later in life, particularly the loving care provided by the nursing staff at D’Youville Senior Care Center.

Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday, June 5th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough.
