Robert “Emmett” Lewis, Jr., age 79, a resident of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He was the beloved longtime companion of Mary Cote, with whom he shared over 17 years together.
Born in Boston on March 4, 1944, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Marie (Barry) Lewis, Sr. He received his early education from Saint Mary’s school and was a graduate of Saint Mary’s School in Brookline, MA.
Emmett enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1966 and served until his honorable discharge in 1970. During his time in the service he attended Radar Operator School in San Diego and Wireman School at Camp Pendleton. He received several commendations for his service including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the President Unit Citation, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Cross of Gallentery RVN.
Once returning home from the service, he worked in different capacities and later retired from the Town of Brookline.
Emmett lived life to the fullest, always taking vacations with Mary to Aruba and the Islands, going on cruises or just taking a ride to the beach; he was an avid reader and history buff, enjoyed the New England Patriot’s and always looked forward to sitting down with a nice dry martini. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Surviving him in addition to Mary, are her children and sons-in-law, Joanne Sanborn-Lange and family, Stacy Chan and her former husband Seng and family, Stephanie Galloni and husband Peter and family, and Stephanie’s former husband Ryan Fitzpatrick; a very special friend who was more like a son to Emmett, Jason Thoms his wife Amy and family; a sister, Sandra Murphy; many nieces, nephews and dear friends; and his furry family, Nicholas and Rebecca, his two cats that were always by his side. Emmett was predeceased by his sisters Maureen Lewis and Dottie Jackson.
