Rita A. (Charest) McInerney
LOWELL – Rita A. (Charest) McInerney, age 92, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021, at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill. She was the beloved wife of the late James P. McInerney Jr., who passed away on April 16, 2021, just 12 short weeks ago.
She was a lifelong resident of her family home in Pawtucketville, where she was born on March 31, 1929, a daughter of the late Joseph E. and Rose A. (Paquin) Charest. She was educated at St. Jeanne d’Arc Catholic Elementary School and was a graduate of Lowell High School; Class of 1947.
She worked as a secretary at the Harry Bass Dept Store in Lowell and then the Lowell Raytheon Plant before becoming a fulltime mother and homemaker. Rita was dedicated to her family and friends and was an active parishioner of the Parish of Saint Rita.
Rita enjoyed reading, playing the organ, decorating cakes, traveling with her husband, and lunch dates with friends. She was a regular participant in the exercise classes at her gym, and looked forward to seeing her workout friends right up until the age of 88. Rita loved her family, cherished the time spent with her granddaughters and had a cat in the house throughout her entire life.
Surviving her are a son, Joseph P. McInerney of Hudson, NH, and two daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol A. and Gary Goyette of Nashua and Christine M. and Robert Beaudoin of Dracut; five granddaughters, Nicole, Ellie, Grace, Rose and Courtney; two brothers-in-law, Thomas C. McInerney of Malden and Edward J. McInerney of Billerica; also many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Raymond, Victor “Pete”, and Maurice Charest, Lucille Furiga, Florence Sellers and Claire Shanahan.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Thursday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Rita Conference, P.O. Box 914, Lowell, MA 01853.
