Richard A. Blanchette, age 80, a resident of Plant City, Florida and a former longtime resident of Lowell and Dracut, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Nora Bellerose with whom he had been married for 10 years and husband of the late Dorothy A. (Montminy) Blanchette for 48 years.
Born in Lowell on July 1, 1943, he was a son of the late Leo and Blanche (Levi) Blanchette. He received his early education at St. Joseph Elementary School and was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School. He later received his associate’s degree from New Hampshire College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1965.
Richard worked for many years in the insurance industry and prior to his retirement he worked in sales for Advantage Eastern Sales Marketing.
He enjoyed golfing, calling many games of bingo, traveling, square dancing with the Town Travelers Square Dancers, and going to casinos. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, and being a Pépère to his grandchildren.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife Nora, are his three daughters and three sons-in-laws, Rose-Marie and Paul Bergeron of Lowell, Michelle and John Kohanski of Dracut and Lisa and John Kuenzler of Gardner, MA; a step daughter, Cindy Butler and her husband Nathan of ME; five grandchildren, Adam Quintal and his wife Paige of NH, Lindsey Maltby and her husband Richard of MI, Kara Watson, Courtney Kohanski and Kayla Kohanski all of MA; six step grandchildren, BethAnn, Paul, Paula, Jean Louis, Sam and Kristina; three great grandchildren, Maximus, Magdalena and Matthias; a sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and Norman Worcester; a sister-in-law, Julie Blanchette; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was also the brother of the late Roland Blanchette and Georgette Belanger.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral Monday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 95 Lakeview Ave., Tyngsborough. Committal Services with military honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org
