Raymond Masse Obituary

On June 26, 2026 Raymond A. Masse, surrounded by family, rejoined his beloved wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Normandin) Masse, to celebrate their June 28th wedding anniversary together in heaven.

Born in Dover, NH, his family eventually moved to Lowell, MA where Ray graduated as class valedictorian and editor-in-chief from St. Joseph’s and eventually brought his intelligence and athletic ability to Lowell State Teachers College where, in 1984, he was elected into the UMass Lowell Hall of Fame after a stellar baseball career.

Ray was also a Hall of Fame father to his three sons as he coached all of us through our Little and Junior League baseball careers through the PYO organization while celebrating many family events over the years.

Ray spent 36 years teaching in the Burlington, MA elementary school system where he had the pleasure of having two notable students sitting in his class during his career; Kitty Carruthers, 1984 Olympic silver medal figure skater, and Saturday Night Live alum, Amy Poehler.

He spent decades attending countless UMass Lowell sporting events where it was nearly impossible not to run into his friendly face while listening to him talk passionately about UML sports. Eventually, he moved his passion from the bleachers to the sidelines where he worked the game clock for UML home basketball games for many years.

Yet, one thing mattered more to Ray than sports – his family. As a father to three boys, Ray was eventually blessed with an ever-growing family tree consisting of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ray is predeceased by his brother, Albert, and sister, Anna Courtemanche.

He is survived by his son Richard and Priscille Masse, son Michael and Joanne Masse, and son Paul and his girlfriend, Stephanie Veiga. Ray is also survived by his grandchildren; Derek and Amanda Masse, Brian and Deanna Masse, Nichole and Freddie Murphy, Katie and Matthew Thibault, Shaylyn and Ryan Maran, Mariah Masse, Tyler Masse and girlfriend, Kim Sullivan, and Ryan Masse; and 14 amazing great grandchildren.

Forever a River Hawk!
