Philip J. Sullivan, age 78, a resident of Tyngsborough and formerly of Melrose, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, with family by his side.
Born in Melrose on March 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Patrick and Marie (Murphy) Sullivan. He was a graduating member of Melrose High School’s Class of 1964.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a construction engineer at Dana F. Perkins, Inc, a civil engineering and surveying firm located in Tewksbury. Most recently, he worked for the Cannongate condominium association in Tyngsborough managing property maintenance.
Philip most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Often outspoken, he was also well known for his sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need. He loved Boston sports and all things Irish, including the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, where he recently fulfilled a lifelong dream to attend a home game in South Bend, Indiana. He was also passionately patriotic as evidenced by his dedication to preserving the memory and service of fallen U.S. Marines Paul King (2006) of Tyngsborough and his cousin Stephen Sullivan (1968) of Melrose.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Amy Sullivan, and Kelly Sullivan-Craig and James Craig; two sons, James Sullivan and Philip Sullivan Jr; two granddaughters, Stephanie and Sarah Craig; his longtime companion, Denice Hoffman and grandson Andrew; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Lee and Linda Sullivan and Shaun and Sandy Sullivan; nephew John Sullivan and his wife Lisa, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald Sullivan and sisters Judy Boudreau and Susan Sullivan.
In accordance with his wishes, services will be held privately.
The family request that those who wish to make a donation in Philip’s name please consider the 1st Battalion 25th Marines Association listed below or a charity of your choice.
