Maurice G. Caron
Maurice G. Caron, age 91, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Therese S. (Fillion) Caron, who recently passed away on May 14, 2023, and with whom he shared over 62 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on October 25, 1931, he was a son of the late Albert and Alida (Savard) Caron.
Maurice was a Korean War Veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Presidential Unit Citation.
Maurice was employed by the Oblates of Mary Immaculate for over 34 years having worked in many capacities at St. Joseph Shrine in downtown Lowell.
He was also an active parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church and later St. Michael’s Parish.
Maurice was an avid reader, who enjoyed making puzzles, gardening, and polka dancing with his wife. Family was very important to Maurice and he always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Paul Durand; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Kim Caron and Roger and Elaine Caron; a son-in-law, James Ohlstein; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Paul Bourassa; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Paul Caron and Christine Ohlstein and brother of the late Roland Caron, Alfred Caron, Florence Langlois, Rita Goupil and Therese Bourassa.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Tuesday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Wednesday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Rd., Lowell. Those attending the Funeral Mass will be asked to meet directly at church. Committal services with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his memory to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, c/o Philanthropy Office, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854.
