Margaret (Higgason) Morin Obituary

Margaret J (Higgason) Morin, of Dracut MA, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  She was the beloved wife of the late Leo P Morin, who passed away in 2010.

Margaret was born in New Rochelle, NY on January 8, 1933, daughter of the late Elizabeth (Hughes) of Dover, NH and William Higgason, of Nashville, TN.  At the age of 2, her family moved to Dover, NH to live with her mother’s large family, then relocated to Dracut MA. She attended Dracut elementary schools, then attended high school in Lowell, MA at St Patrick’s High School, Class of 1950.  She proudly retired at the age of 80, enjoying 47 years working aside the Viau family of Lowell MA, as office manager extraordinaire of a long time Lowell business. Many would say to Margaret, “why are you still working?”, and she would always respond– “because I love my job”.  She found much fulfillment in being a dedicated and valued employee, as well as the many wonderful people she met along the way.

Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed hosting the many family celebrations at her home.  She was a talented homemaker, loved her home, her flowers, her neighbors and her friends.  She lived a very spiritual life, enjoying her daily rosary and prayer.  She was an avid and talented ballroom dancer and enjoyed many years of dancing with her husband.  She felt very fortunate to travel the world with her husband, whether a journey to New Zealand, a family cruise to Alaska, visits to the Vatican or delightful road trips across the USA – her travel memories are extensive, with her greatest travel joy being making new friends.  She loved to meet someone new and learn their story - everyone was deserving of a hug.

Her greatest pride and joy without question, was raising her three children and spending quality time with her five grandchildren who she adored. Her wall of baby photo’s, with the more recent addition of three great grandchildren, was a place that brought smiles to her face every single day.  In addition, her involvement in her church community was very important to her and brought her much happiness.

Margaret is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter Paula Pettengill and husband Bill of Guilford, VT, her son Stephen Morin and wife Patti of Nashua, NH; her grandchildren Catherine Lukasiak and husband Evan of Tewksbury, MA, Amanda Pettengill and fiancé Leonardo Cascitelli of Miami, FL, William Pettengill Jr and wife Meredith of Natick MA, Timothy Morin and wife Heather of Kingston, MA, and Patrick Morin and fiancée Becky Kuzma of Dover, NH; and great-grandchildren Riley Lukasiak, Maeve Pettengill and Tatum Morin. She will also be missed by her son-in-law Mike McNayr and sister-in-law Pauline Porder.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Debra (Morin) McNayr who passed away in 2015 and her sister Ann Merrill, who passed away in 2017.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Lowell General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care of Margaret.  Also, the family extends sincere thanks for the care and friendship of staff and residents at The Arbors at Dracut, MA and her many loving and devoted friends.
