Lyle Kenneth Eiben, 83, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on March 10, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, Lyle brought love, wisdom, and an infectious sense of humor into the world — a legacy that lives on in all who knew him.
Lyle spent most of his life in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he built a beautiful life with his beloved wife of 57 years, Darline Marie Eiben. Together, they made a home filled with laughter, love, and lifelong memories. Lyle was a devoted husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather.
He is survived by his children: Leslie Frost and her husband Robert of Tewksbury, Angela Christoffels and her husband Mark of Townsend, and Eric Eiben and his wife Michelle of Galivants Ferry, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Todd Eiben, whose memory remained close to his heart.
Lyle found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to eight beautiful grandchildren: Daniel Frost, Devlin Frost, Tobias Christoffels, Dylan Christoffels, Justin Eiben, Kyle Eiben, Alex Eiben, and Kailyn Eiben. He was a true family man and enjoyed spending time playing with and teaching his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all the additional people he brought under the umbrella of family. Always a jokester and storyteller, he enjoyed making everyone he met laugh and happy.
Lyle was one of nine siblings and the son of the late John Edwin Eiben and Gertrude Eiben of Nebraska. He was predeceased by seven of his brothers and sisters: Dwain Eiben, Ardell Eiben, Jeanette Haskins, Shirley Johnson, Alberta Lyons, Norman Eiben, and Thelma Anderson. He is survived by his brother Jerry Eiben, who will remember Lyle best from their summers on Big Birch Lake, boating and fishing with their families.
In 1961, Lyle proudly joined the United States Naval Air Force, serving his country with honor until 1966. During his service, he specialized in working on Sanders Associates equipment, gaining hands-on experience and technical skills that would shape his future. After his discharge, Lyle took a position at Sanders Associates in Nashua, New Hampshire — launching his professional career and changing his life forever. It was here that he met his true love, Darline, who had just started as a secretary for the company. Their first date was at Salisbury Beach, and the rest was history.
A lifelong learner and determined scholar, Lyle continued his education while working, earning his degree in Electrical Engineering and eventually a Business Degree from the University of Lowell. He was a brilliant thinker, a meticulous problem solver, and a quiet source of inspiration to all who knew him.
He had a zest for life and enjoyed boating, gardening, home improvement, fishing, skiing, and more — all with his friends and family. Those who knew Lyle could expect huge bags of zucchini, squash, tomatoes, bell peppers, and carrots every summer, and his neighbors enjoyed his rows of human-size sunflowers towering over the garden fence. His pride and joy were countless dahlias from which he made bouquets to share with friends, family, and neighbors. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on his porch and identifying the numerous colorful birds (and the occasional squirrel) that stopped by the many bird feeders and houses during his more than 50 years in his Lowell home.
Lyle’s legacy is one of strength, family, and love. He had an easy smile, a generous heart, and a steady presence that comforted those around him. He was always there when people needed him and will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the many lives he touched along the way.
