Lorraine Poitras, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, after a 6-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Alphonse Poitras with whom she enjoyed 61 loving and supportive years of marriage until his passing in 2016.
She was born in Lowell, MA on March 30, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Anita Chamberland. She was the beloved, cherished daughter-in-law of Alphonse and Aurore Poitras who thought of her as their own daughter.
Alphonse would plan adventures, and Lorraine was up for the challenge. How many people decide to make their first hike to Mt Washington at 6288 feet? The mountain would become the next adventure to accomplish with her grandchildren
Lorraine was an exemplary mother; she embodied the best of qualities including, unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family.
Gardening was one of her passions along with sewing and quilting.
Along with her husband, they owned and operated the former Poitras Nursery in Dracut.
Lorraine is survived by her three daughters and three-sons-in-law, Patricia Vaillancourt and her husband Ronald, Michelle Dunn and her husband Donald, and Suzanne Wilcox and her husband Donald; six grandchildren Donald Dunn his wife Michelle, Keith Vaillancourt, Craig Vaillancourt his partner Lia Zeigler, Ryan Vaillancourt his wife Cassandra, Chelsey Wilcox her wife Sheena and Courtney Jensen her husband Michael; four great-grandchildren Lily and Brady Dunn, Kylan Wilcox, Colton Vaillancourt and Orion Jensen.
The omission of her maiden name and any mention of her paternal family were intentional and a private service will be held in Lorraine’s honor for close friends and family.
