Julia F. “Julie” Ramos Fuce, age 82, resided in Hudson, NH and Gulfport, FL passed away on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025 after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was the wife of the late Henry J. Fuce III, who predeceased her by five years.
Born in June of 1943 in Aguada, Puerto Rico, she was the only daughter of Bienvenido Ramos Fuentes and Felicita Javier Badillo. Julie’s parents brought her along with Julia’s younger and only brother, Bienvenido “Junior” Ramos, Jr. to the mainland United States in search of more lucrative employment, settling in Lowell, MA at the age of 8.
Passionate about education, Julie graduated from Lowell High School in 1962 and after getting married to Donald Slates and starting a family with three children; she had the tenacity of juggling her family, work life and attained a Masters degree in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish.
Early in her career, she was a Director at Unitas, a Hispanic outreach program, where she made some deep lifelong friendships.
Julie retired as Associate Director of Transfer Students in the Admissions Department at the University of Lowell after 20 years of helping young students from around the globe achieve their educational goals. She was fortunate enough to retire early and enjoy another of her passions, traveling and visiting new places with her husband Henry.
It would be near impossible to find one person who had a negative word to say about Julie. She was a beautiful woman with a quiet demeanor who has been described by many people as classy, kind, caring, and a great friend. She was an avid reader, who loved dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
Julie is survived by her son Jon Slates and his wife Darlene of Merrimack, NH; her daughter Stephanie Masterson and her husband Bernie of Hudson, NH; her son Scott Slates and his husband Nelson Pratts of Manchester, NH; her step-daughters, Cindy Allard and her husband Gerry of Hillsborough, NH and Sandy Cassidy of Tyngsboro, MA; and her step-son Mark Fuce of Derry, NH. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, Jordan Slates, Chelsea Souza, Kurt Slates, Cole Masterson, Ben Masterson, Joshua Cassidy, Adam Cassidy and Abbey Wagner.
There will be a private service to honor her wishes.
