James A. Vernadakis
TYNGSBOROUGH – James A. Vernadakis, age 94, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at his home, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Louise A. (Ferris) Vernadakis, with whom he shared over 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Springfield, MA on March 8, 1927, he was a son of the late Emmanuel and Gertrude (Sperry) Vernadakis. He was educated in the Springfield school system and was a graduate of Classical High School. He later attended American International College and later the University of Connecticut where he earned a master’s degree and 30 hours beyond in education.
James was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, and was stationed in Iceland from 1945 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Award and the World War II Victory Medal.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife Louise and he loved relaxing with a fine wine.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Benn J. Vernadakis and his companion Sarah Eckles of CO and Adam J. Vernadakis and his wife Courtney of MA; his loving granddaughter, Ava Vernadakis and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Norman and Charles Vernadakis.
