TYNGSBOROUGH – James S. Roberts Sr., age 80, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, passed away at his home on November 1, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Wall) Roberts, with whom he had been married to for 56 years.
Born in Lowell on August 4, 1941, he was a son of the late Lucius B. and Dorothy (Taisey) Roberts and was educated in the Lowell school system.
James was proud to be a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the US Marine Corps from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1963.
After returning home from the service, he began a career with General Electric that lasted for many years and later he worked for the Vicor Corporation.
James enjoyed sports, and was a passionate Boston Red Sox fan, he also enjoyed woodworking, projects around the house, gardening and feeding the birds and an occasional squirrel here and there.
He was a longtime member of the Tyngsboro Sportsmen’s Club and the American Legion Post 247 in Tyngsborough.
Surviving him in addition to his wife Elizabeth are two sons and three daughter-in-laws, James Jr. and Victoria Roberts of Nashua, Timothy and Karen Roberts of Peterborough, NH, Kimberly Roberts of Hudson, NH; three daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth Roberts of Londonderry, NH, Kimberly and Robert Berrill of Farmington, NH and Becky Roberts of Tyngsborough; thirteen grandchildren, Travis, Tyler, Jessica, Patrick, Stephanie, Michael, Kaitlin, Abigail, Jacob, Samantha, Sean, Emily and Madison; three great grandchildren, Dalton, Dean and Jaymeson; and a sister-in-law, Ann Roberts and her family. He is predeceased by his son Michael A. Roberts who passed on August 25, 2021 and his brother the late Donald E. Roberts.
Relatives and friends may call at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Monday, Nov. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Committal Service with Military Honors will take place on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, MA 01475.
