James McInerney Obituary

James P. McInerney, Jr.

LOWELL – James P. McInerney, Jr., age 91, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Rita A. (Charest) McInerney, with whom he recently celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Born on November 14, 1929, he was a son of the late James P. and Helen H. (Dolan) McInerney, Sr.

Jim was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Cambridge. In 1951, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant, until his honorable discharge in 1953.

After his military service, Jim began working at Raytheon at their Lowell plant and then transferred to Waltham. In 1992, he retired from his role as Production Control Supervisor at Raytheon after 39 years of service.

Jim was a dedicated parishioner to the Parish of Saint Rita and faithfully watched the daily Mass on Boston Catholic Television.

He enjoyed monthly lunches with friends, trips with his wife including a trip to Ireland, Paris, and an Alaskan cruise.  He loved being with his family and watching his granddaughters dance.  He loved crossword puzzles and playing solitaire, working outside his home and gardening.  He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps League out of the Dracut American Legion. Jim was very proud to be of his Irish Heritage, and enjoyed listening to Irish music.

Surviving him in addition to his loving wife Rita, are his son, Joseph P. McInerney of Hudson, NH, and two daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol A. and Gary Goyette of Nashua and Christine M. and Robert Beaudoin of Dracut; five granddaughters, Nicole, Ellie, Grace, Rose and Courtney; two brothers, Thomas C. McInerney of Malden and Edward J. McInerney of Billerica; also many nieces and nephews.
