Obituary

James M. “Jim” Coates

HUDSON, NH - James M. “Jim” Coates, age 62, a longtime resident of Hudson, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Tara M.J. (Janeiro) Coates, with whom he shared over 30 wonderful years of marriage and raised their two cherished daughters, Tara E. Coates and Jennifer L. Coates.

Born in Lowell on October 27, 1959, he was the son of the late Merton H. and Rita F. (Cardoza) Coates and was educated in the Lowell School system. He was employed for many years by the S & R Corporation in Lowell. Jim treasured his summers spent fishing and boating on Lake Winnipesaukee. He was a huge New England sports fan and he never missed a Patriots game.

Throughout his battle with cancer, Jim remained strong and kept everyone laughing until his final days. For many people, it takes a tragedy to realize what is most important in life, but Jim always knew. Nothing meant more to him than spending time with his family.

Surviving him in addition to his wife and daughters are his mother-in-law, Virginia I. (Burns) Janeiro; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. John J. Janeiro, Jr., Michael and Shirley Janeiro, William Janeiro, Timothy Janeiro, Anthony and Susan Janeiro, Joseph Janeiro, and Virginia and Joseph Lafreniere and their children, Joseph Jr., Kelsey, Haley, and Siobhan; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of Merton B. Coates and the late Debra A. Wasik.

In accordance with his wishes, Funeral Services were held privately.  Those wishing may make a memorial donation in his name to the MGH Cancer Center, c/o MGH Development Office, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114. For online condolences, please visit www.tyngsboroughfuneralhome.com.
