Georgine E. (Poitras) Roy, age 106, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of the late Walter J. Roy.
Born in Lowell on October 24, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Aime L. and Rose (Ragot) Poitras. She earned her early education from Notre Dame de Lourdes and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School for girls. She and her husband built a life and raised their family in Lowell. She was a resident of Lowell for 103 years. She was also a longtime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Georgine was a homemaker and later worked for Stanley Home Products and as a receptionist for Triad Design Company in Lowell. She loved family and established many generational traditions. Whether it was weekly family dinners and quilting class, girls weekends, shopping or trips to the casino, Christmas Eve or family gatherings, her favorite times were when she was surrounded by family and friends. Georgine was up for anything, even at the age of 106 years old. She ran scavenger hunts through Loon Mountain with her children and grandchildren, girl’s weekends, played lawn games at cookouts, dressed up as Santa on Christmas Eve and loved the slot machines. She loved to quilt, crochet and knit. She made numerous family heirlooms, from wedding to baby items for her family to treasure. Georgine will forever be remembered by her greatest legacy, which was the family she created.
She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Yvette Nelson, Paulette Osterberg and her husband Walter, Claudette Meehan and her late husband James E. Meehan and Annette Boulanger and her husband Philip Heras; twelve grandchildren – Greg Nelson, Shelley Glionna, Gary Nelson, Sue Miller, George Nelson, Philip Renaud, Kim Moceri, Amy Ryan, David (DJ) Boulanger, Haley Capone, Nicole Palmer, and Ashley Boulanger, thirty one great grandchildren and eighteen great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her snack companion Fluffy.
She was predeceased by her brothers Edwin and Aime Poitras and sons-in-law, Ronald R. Renaud and David J. Boulanger.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning, August 14, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 144 E. Merrimack St., Lowell.
