George Loder Obituary

George W. Loder, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, in his daughter’s home with his family by his side after a long battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.  He was a longtime resident of Lowell.  He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Heyward) Loder, with whom he had shared 57 years of marriage.

George was born in Cambridge Ma on December 28, 1942, the son of the late George and Virginia (Reno) Loder.

George was a skilled machinist by trade.  He worked for companies such as Nuclear Metals (He worked with depleted uranium making tank rounds for the US Army for the Persian Gulf War.), and prior to retirement he worked for Bard Corporation.

George took on many side jobs or hobbies.  He enjoyed taking things apart and rebuilding/fixing them.  Whether it be a radio, a computer or rebuilding a cars engine or transmission, he would fix it.  He could be found either with a book in his hand reading or a pen in hand to write to his many pen pals all over the world.

He would open his home to anyone for a talk, cup of coffee, a meal, or a place to stay.  Over the years this would include several foster children, his niece Joanne Maldonado, and several others that where just in need.  It has been said by his siblings that he was a “great” big brother taking on the role of being the head of the house at a very young age and always doing the best he could.

George is survived by his wife Barbara A (Heyward) Loder and their three children.  Their daughter Lisa (Loder) Peterson and her husband Scott.  His son George Loder Jr. and his wife Lisa.  His daughter Marie (Loder) Burns and her husband Mark.  As well as their grandchildren Melissa and her husband Mark Gannon, Rashelle Maclure and her partner Brian, Kendra Maclure, Michaela Burns and Averianna Burns.  As well as several great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers Paul Loder, Richard and Emmy Loder, and John Loder.  His sister Virginia (Loder) and her husband Brian Ferrick, also many nieces and nephews.  He was also the brother of the late Peter Loder and Robert Loder.

A special thanks from the family to Yuly for always making his day a better world to be in and providing him with excellent care. Thanks to the Tufts hospice staff.  You were all wonderful, helpful, and kind.  Much appreciated.  Thank you Kathy, Mary, Paul, Reese, Sharon, and Glory.
