Francis “Red” Edward Egan, age 87, a former longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at the Blaire House of Tewksbury. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Stone) Egan, who died in 2020. Born in Chelmsford on October 15, 1935, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary Ellen (Saunders) Egan. He lived in the house he was born in for over 80 years and was sometimes called the mayor of East Chelmsford. He played on the football team for Chelmsford High School, his alma mater, and was a big fan of horse racing, car racing, and the New England Patriots football team. He loved card games and taking long walks to stay fit. In 2010, he had a cameo in the film, The Fighter. A bricklayer by trade, he was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen since 1958. He is survived by his four stepsons and their families: Stephen Lepore, Stefanie Rassnick, and Brianna Lepore; Douglas Lepore; Scott Lepore, Stacy Lepore (Johnson), Nicholas Lepore, and Isabella Lepore; Shawn McInnis, Stephanie McInnis (Waters), Alyssa McInnis, and Aiden McInnis. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Kiernan (Egan), and her daughters and their families: Ellen Hendrickson (Kiernan), Jon Hendrickson, Erin Hendrickson, and Colin Hendrickson; Kathy Murray (Kiernan), Mark Murray, Emily Murray, and Sean Murray.
