Florence E. (Gibson) Freitas, age 85, a resident of Chelsea and a former longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 4, 2026, with her husband and son by her side. She was the beloved wife of Paul A. Freitas.
She was born on June 2, 1941, in Lowell, and was a daughter of the late Warren and Florence (Scanlon) Gibson.
Florence, along with her husband, owned and operated the Commonwealth House on Nesmith Street in Lowell for many years as well as the Brentwood Bowling lanes in Lowell for 24 years.
Surviving her in addition to her loving husband Paul, are her son, Paul W. Freitas; six grandchildren; one great grandson; a sister-in-law, Nancy Gibson; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre deceased by her sons, Gary, David and Michael Freitas.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Wednesday, June 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 11, at 12 noon at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish, 374 Stevens St., Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
