Edgar C. “Chink” Chartier, age 80, a resident of Tyngsborough, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Doris M. (Bickford) Chartier, with whom he shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.
Born March 4, 1944, in Lowell, MA (Little Canada), he was a son of the late Edgar J. and Violet (Morin) Chartier. He attended St. Joseph’s High School in Lowell and also HVAC School and later attended Fitchburg State University. Edgar served in the Army National Guard earning the rank of Specialist 5 before his honorable discharge.
Early in his career, Edgar worked as an auto body repairman, and later started Northeast Appraisals, which was an auto insurance appraising company.
He enjoyed woodworking, riding on his tractor, fly-fishing, playing canasta, woodcarving, driving adventures with his wife and he always looked forward to family gatherings. He was also a lifetime member of the Tyngsboro Sportsman’s Club
Surviving him in addition to his wife Doris are his children, Michael Chartier of Hudson, NH, Michelle Chartier of Tyngsborough, Dennis Chartier of Tyngsboro and Kenneth Chartier of Amherst, NH; six grandchildren, Jack, Luke and Grace Chartier and Ryan, Andrew and Corey Chartier; two sisters and two brothers, Georgette Racette of Pelham, Raymond Chartier of Dracut, Leo Chartier and his wife Debbie Chartier of Pelham, NH and Gail Monbleau and her husband Michael of Dracut; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Loretta Bickford of Wilmington, Charles and Kathleen Bickford of Billerica; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Richard Chartier, and he was also the brother-in-law of the late Kathleen Carroll, Stephen Bickford, Henry Bickford III, Sally Gebo and Raymond Racette
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough on Saturday morning, Nov. 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following at 11 a.m. at the Parish of Saint Mary Magdalen, 95 Lakeview Avenue, Tyngsborough. Burial will follow in Tyngsborough Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at http://www.stjude.org
