Catherine (Squeglia) Wheeler Firestone Obituary

Catherine Ann (Squeglia) Wheeler Firestone, age 65, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, September 18, 2020. Cathy died peacefully at Transitions Hospice House after a short battle with cancer, her husband, Willard Firestone, by her side.

Cathy was an avid gardener who loved to be outdoors and watch her flowers bloom and the birds feed at her many backyard feeders. She and Will enjoyed long motorcycle rides on country roads followed by sweet treats. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy; she spent countless hours visiting with them, hosting holidays, attending their sporting events, recitals, and shows and traveling with them. Never one to forget a milestone in the life of a friend or family member, she was always quick to remind others to wish someone a happy birthday or anniversary. Cathy’s life ended too soon, but she lived fully and loved fiercely.  Younghearted and full of life, she was always the mom and aunt on the amusement park rides, sledding with the children and dancing on the dancefloor giving her signature “Whoop Whoop.” Cathy was a stranger to no one and enjoyed meeting all of her neighbors and spoiling the neighborhood children with treats. She volunteered throughout her life by helping others and putting others’ needs before her own. She volunteered at the hospital with patients who had AIDS to provide comfort and hope, served at Living Waters for many years and would often feed the homeless, sponsored a young girl from Africa, went on a mission trip to Guatemala and most recently volunteered at Saving Grace, a no-kill shelter for dogs. Cathy loved attending bible study and telling others about Jesus. She was a member at Grace Community Church, Harbor of Hope Church, and recently Richland Creek Community Church.

Cathy moved to Youngsville, North Carolina in 2018. Prior to that move to North Carolina, she resided in Massachusetts for the entirety of her life. She attended Dracut Senior High School class of 1973 and later worked at Accutest and Tautron. She retired from her position as order administrator for Kronos in 2019.

Cathy is survived by her husband Willard Firestone, her daughter Jennifer Wheeler Bitner (Brandon Bitner), her son Keith Wheeler, Jr. (Amy Landry Wheeler), her 5 grandchildren Zachary, Isabel, Ethan, Josh, and Kaelyn, her sister Helene Callaluca (Joe Callaluca), sister Carol Goodin (Gerry Goodin), her brothers Tony Squeglia and Billy Squeglia, step siblings Dolly Poirier, Ray Desmarais, and Albie Desmarais (Denise Desmarais), sisters in law Judy Squeglia and Judy Desmarais, brothers in law Brian Wheeler (Jenn Riley Wheeler), and Gary Wheeler, father in law Roy Wheeler (Wendy Wheeler), Edna Cox, Richard Firestone, Blanche Papier, George Firestone and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Cathy was predeceased by her late husband Keith R. Wheeler Sr, mother Catherine Burnham Squeglia, father Anthony Squeglia, step mother Doris Squeglia, brother George Squeglia, sister in law Cindy Wheeler, mother in law Carole Wheeler, mother and father in law Mary and Glenn Firestone, brothers in law Ronald Firestone, Edward Firestone and Glenn Firestone, Jr.
