Brendan J. Sousa, age 85, a former resident of Hudson, NH and Lowell, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2024. He was the husband of the late Joanne (Kenyon) Sousa, the love of his life for over 64 years, before her passing in 2023.
Born in Lowell on April 20, 1939, he was one of seventeen children of the late Joseph F. and Doris (Evans) Sousa. His siblings include sisters Lenore, Mary, Geraldine, Donna, Martha, Jacqualyn, Diane, Deborah, June, Rosemarie, and Valerie; brothers Richard, Robert, David, Joseph, and Thomas. He was educated in the Lowell school system and was proud to be the president of the Lowell High School Class of 1956.
In his younger days, Brendan was an exceptional baseball player, excelling as a center fielder and was proud to be invited to try out for both the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.
Before retiring in the late 90s, his career included working as a Customer Service Manager for MACOM as well as being the Executive Director of the Greater Lowell Board of Realtors.
Brendan had an engaging, friendly personality and great sense of humor. He had a knack for remembering details about people and for making them feel special. He enjoyed playing golf, was a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and an avid Boston sports fan. Brendan was a loyal friend and cherished his lifelong friendships with Bob McMahon and Bill Martin, friends since 2nd grade. He enjoyed spending time with neighbors and friends of the Lexington Court Assoc. in Hudson, where he was known as the master of trivia. He was passionate about maintaining meaningful friendships, such as those from the LHS Class of ‘56 and worked very hard to keep the members of the class connected through monthly lunches and reunions. Above everything, he cherished time with his family and could always be counted on to bring his “famous fried rice” to gatherings.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John Greenwood of Pepperell; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Anne-Marie Sousa of Hollis, NH; grandchildren, Stephanie and her partner Doug, Kathryn and her partner Ryan, Daniel, Michael and his wife Jennifer, and Samantha and her husband Austin; great grandchildren, Rosie, Wyatt and Poppy; he also leaves many close nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation in his memory to an organization very dear to his heart, Catie’s Closet at www.catiescloset.org or 28 Loon Hill Rd., Dracut, MA 01826.
