Betty J. Chapman
TYNGSBOROUGH, MA – Betty J. (Jones) Chapman, age 89, a longtime resident of Tyngsborough, MA passed away peacefully, on January 31, 2022, with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Benjamin G. Chapman with whom she shared over 68 years of marriage.
Born on July 24, 1932, in Johnson, VT, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Chattin) Jones. She was a graduate of Lamoille Central Academy high school in Hyde Park, VT and Johnson State Teachers College in Johnson, VT. She later attended Northeastern University earning a master’s degree in special education.
Prior to her retirement, Betty was employed as a special education teacher of the deaf for the City of Lowell school department.
In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, knitting, cooking and traveling with her family and friends. Betty was also a member of the First Congregational Church of Pelham.
Surviving her, in addition to her husband, are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Bowley of Tewksbury, MA, Marie Murphy and her husband Daniel of Pelham, NH, and Carol Dove and her husband Reginald of Tyngsborough, MA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Clark, Daniel Murphy, Bethany Murphy, Peter Bowley and Adam Dove; two great grandchildren, Chamberlain Clark and Archer Clark; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Jones of Hyde Park, VT; a sister, Lorraine Urie of Glover, VT; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Paul Jones and Marion McEwing.
Private Funeral Services will take place Tuesday February 8, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Memorial Cemetery, Tyngsborough. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Betty’s memory to:
