Barbara E. (Connell) (Robeson) Magoon
TYNGSBOROUGH – Barbara E. (Connell) (Robeson) Magoon, age 104, a lifelong resident of Tyngsborough, passed away peacefully, at her home on Sunday, March 21, 2021. She was the widow of the late George R. Robeson and the late W. Earl Magoon Sr.
Born in Lowell on December 13, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Clarence J. and Edith (Knowlton) Connell.
Barbara grew up on her family farm in Tyngsborough, working side by side with her parents running the day to day operations suppling daily milk to the residents of Tyngsborough and Dunstable. After pasteurization became regulated, her family could not afford the proper machinery to change over to the new process and therefore had to sell their cows.
Barbara then began a long career with the telephone company as a switchboard operator in Tyngsborough. She started at the time when phone plugs had to be inserted into the proper jacks in order to complete a call and witnessed firsthand the evolution of the industry over her 41 years with the company.
A woman of great faith, she had been an active member of the Evangelical Congregational Church of Tyngsboro for many years, where she was a longtime volunteer at their Thrift Shop and Annual Fair, a dedicated member and past treasurer of the Women’s Club; she also assisted with Sunday school and was a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
Barbara enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music and would often travel to concerts and events to hear many of her favorite bands. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with friends.
She is survived by her longtime caretaker and friend, David Shaw of Tyngsborough; as well as many dear friends.
Friends will be received on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough. Her Funeral Service will take place immediately following in the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Sherburne Cemetery, Tyngsborough.
