Arthur J. Lagasse
DRACUT –Arthur “Woodsie” J. Lagasse, age 79, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at his home on August 1, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine (Foucher/Emond) Lagasse, who died in 2018.
Born in Lowell on December 24, 1941, he was the son of the late Edmond and Marie Jeanne (Lafortune) Lagasse. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and a parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church. Arthur was also a veteran of the Army National Guard, having served from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1965.
Arthur was employed for over 25 years as a Business Manager with Digital Equipment Corp. and later was involved with operations at Pell Engineering & Manufacturing, Inc. in Pelham, NH.
Woodsie loved spending time at Summer Village with his wife Elaine and driving around on his “buggy” to visit their many friends. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, puzzles, cribbage, and dominos and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. He was truly a nice guy and in the end he was proud to tell you, “hey, I survived COVID”, but he couldn’t beat cancer.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin Lagasse of Dracut and Kenneth Emond and his wife Stacey of Dracut; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Bakke and her husband David of Tewksbury; another daughter Nicolle Houston of Dracut and three grandchildren, Christopher, Maddalana and Samantha; a brother and sister-in-law, Armand and Sylvia Lagasse of Hudson, NH; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Jeannine Turgeon of Lowell, Lorraine Blanchette of Pelham, NH and Claire and Robert Belanger of Dracut; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Janet Miller-Ramsdell of Salisbury, MA and Dianne Clancy and her husband Patrick of Tuscon, AZ; also many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends may call at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Friday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell. Committal services will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
