Ann Marie (Sweeney) Smith, age 77, of Lowell, MA. passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at the Lowell General Hospital with family by her side. She was the wife of the late Stephen W. Smith who passed away this past December.
Born in Lowell on July 21, 1948, she was a daughter of the late James J. and Edwina L. (Farnan) Sweeney. She was educated in the Dracut school system and was a graduate of Dracut High School.
Currently, Ann Marie was retired from the City of Lowell, having worked as a school cafeteria manager at the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.
She enjoyed baking, gardening and shopping. Whether in a professional or personal role, she worked tirelessly to feed children.
She is survived by her eight children, Patti DeMont and spouse Michael, Jimmy DeMont, Jodi DeMont, Shirley Smith, Claire Smith, Angel “CJ” Gonzalez and spouse Lisa, Samantha DeMont and Tabatha DeMont; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Robert Sweeney and spouse Sheila, Eugene Sweeney and spouse Songkhran, Margaret Therrien and late spouse Ronald, Patricia Laurin and spouse Roger, Catherine Ouellette and spouse Marcel, Judy Shepard and spouse John, JoAnn Gagne and spouse Victor and Karen Nicolls and spouse Donald; sister-in-laws, Gail Sweeney and Michelle DeMont with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two children, Donald DeMont and Rose DeMont and two brothers, James Sweeney Jr. and Daniel Sweeney.
Relatives are invited to meet at Merrimack Crematorium, 10 Henry Clay Dr., Merrimack, NH on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 10 a.m. for a brief period of remembrance prior to cremation. A graveside service and burial will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell, to which all are invited.
