Aline R. (Tessier) Houghtaling Obituary

Aline R. Houghtaling, Mommadukes, Tante, Aunt, Mumsie, Grandma, and Momma to all, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Tufts Medical Center on December 21, 2024, after a brief illness. She was blessed to have lived seventy-one amazing and loving years.

Aline will be remembered as the rock and glue to her family. She was the most selfless person one could meet, with a massive heart, who was the first to offer a helping hand or send a gift for any little occasion (including half-birthdays). Aline was best known for being the keeper of family stories and traditions, the one who could hem and mend clothes, find the perfect gift, cook old family recipes, and solving any problem before anyone knew there was a problem. Aline was feisty, honest, loyal, loving, genuine, and reliable. Aline had a love for all things Disney that one might believe bordered on obsession, was in love with experiencing life, knowing that others were cared for made her beam with joy, and always lived life by her own terms. Aline enjoyed good music, specifically the golden oldies, country music, Rod Stewart, Barry Manilow, and most importantly the Beatles. She was an avid fan of the Red Sox, and was happiest when playing cards with her family, vacationing at Hampton Beach, traveling with her son, Scott, and caring for others. Before the death of Robert (Bob) her husband, she relished in driving him crazy at every available opportunity, as he did for her. It was such a true love story, and she missed the fun Bob and her had together over 41 years of marriage. Aline despised whenever a fuss was made over her, or being the center of attention.

Aline was born in Lowell on February 20, 1953, the daughter of Raoul and Therese Tessier, and raised in the Pawtucketville section. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1970. Being the caretaker that she was, Aline joined the workforce after graduation to help support her family. She continued her education at the Salter School, earning a certificate in medical billing and coding, and she was employed at Tufts Medicine at Lowell General, with plans to retire in the next year.

Aline was predeceased by her parents and husband, and will be dearly missed by her son, Scott of Lowell, stepdaughter Cindy (Don) Peto of Perry, MI, sister Pauline (David) Scoby of Erie, CO, sister Diane Tessier of Dracut, brother George (Lynne) Tessier of Lowell, and brother Paul (Carmen) Tessier of Lawrence, MA. Aline is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, “adopted” sons and daughters, and countless friends who became family and loved her.

Since Aline was never one to make a fuss of anything that made her the center of attention; her wishes were for calling hours only, which will be held on Sunday, January 5, from 12 noon to 2 pm at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough. Instead of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the charity of your choosing. Some of Aline’s favorites were the Mike McNeil Organization, Mass General Cancer Center, and Disabled American Vets.

Aline’s family wishes to thank the staff at Tufts Medicine at Lowell General and Tufts Medical Center of Boston for the wonderful care Aline received in her final days. Specifically the team on the cardiac surgery intensive care unit at Tufts in Boston.
