Richard “Dickie” Monahan, 82, a former longtime resident of Waltham and Newton, and more recently of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret M. “Peggy” (Lupo) Monahan, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership until her passing in 2015.
Born in Watertown on December 19, 1942, Dickie was the cherished son of the late Thomas R. and Theresa M. (Walker) Monahan. He was educated in the Watertown school system and graduated from Watertown High School, where he laid the foundation for a lifetime of dedication, hard work, and an adventurous spirit.
A man who truly embraced life, Dickie found joy in traveling, boating, fishing, and skiing. His enthusiasm was contagious, and he was always at the heart of a good time, making memories with those he held dear. With a career spanning over 65 years, Dickie was a respected leader in the HVAC industry. As the owner and operator of REM Service and Monahan Technologies in Tewksbury, he built a legacy of excellence and integrity, earning the trust and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dickie was deeply committed to his community. He was a longtime member of the Lions Club, where he dedicated himself to service, and an active parishioner of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish in Waltham, where his faith and generosity touched many lives. Above all, family was at the center of Dickie’s world.
He leaves behind his beloved children, Kathleen A. Cronin and her husband Robert, Steven R. Monahan and his wife Cherie, and Brian K. Monahan and his wife Anna. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Aaron, Kaitlin, Mitchell, Victoria, Brenden, Abigail, and Shannon, who brought him endless joy. He will also be deeply missed by his many dear friends and all who were fortunate to know him.
