Devoted husband, father and grandfather

 

DUNSTABLE – Mr. Richard L. Guay, age 71, a longtime resident of Dunstable, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was the beloved husband and lifelong friend of Doris G. (Gervais) Guay with whom he recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Born in Manchester, NH on June 2, 1945, he was a son of the late Gerard A. and Lorraine G. (Gingras) Guay.

He attended Ste Jeanne d’Arc School and Lowell Trade School and was a parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War having been stationed at the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek in Norfolk, VA.  He was assigned to Beachmaster Unit Two until his honorable discharge in 1968.

He was ambitious as a young teen and began “Rick’s Construction”.  In 1972 he settled in Dunstable and built “The Woodcrafters Shop” and later T.W.S. Graphics.  Rick was always reinventing himself to meet the needs of multiple businesses within the construction and technology trades.  He always had an entrepreneurial spirit and was admired for his many talents, creativity, problem solving, sense of humor and his enjoyment for passing on his knowledge to his grandchildren. 

Rick had many varied interests; he was a guitarist and was a part of the Garage Bands of Greater Lowell during the 60’s, he loved social gatherings with family and friends, music, movies, motorcycles, Neil Diamond concerts, flea markets, train shows and in his later years he enjoyed trips to Mohegan Sun and dining out to name a few.

He also enjoyed public service, especially assisting with food basket deliveries to local shelters and food pantries.

Surviving him in addition to his loving wife Doris are five sons and four daughters in law, Richard M. and Valerie Guay of Nashua, Robert G. and Tricia Guay of Nashua, Michael A. Guay of Bellingham, MA, David C. and Michele Guay of Brookline, NH and Mark A. and Shannon Guay of Brookline, NH;  eight grandchildren, Kelsey and her husband Frank Christy, Heather Guay, Christopher Guay, Matthew Guay, Camden Guay, Abigail Guay, Allen Guay and Alexandria Guay; a great grandson, Grant Lewis Christy; a brother and sister in law, Paul G. and Jacqueline Guay of Manchester, NH; a sister and brother in law, Louise A. and Edward Deschamps of GA; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

 

GUAY – died in Merrimack, NH on May 12, 2017.  Mr. Richard L. Guay, a resident of Dunstable and husband of Doris G.
