Mr. Rene P. Gauthier, age 89, and a lifelong Lowell resident died on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Lowell General Hospital. He was born June 4, 1927, the son of George and Dora (Martin) Gauthier.
He was educated in the Lowell school system. He went on to attend the New England Barber School of Boston. He operated his own barber shop from 1955 to 1975. He then joined the staff at UMass Lowell as a lab technician.
Rene was a veteran of World War II in the Army Medical Corps.
Rene was a former member of Ste Jeanne d’Arc parish and is now a St. Francis Church in Dracut parishioner.
Mr. Gauthier is survived by his wife of 60 years Simonne (Breault) Gauthier; his son Normand R. Gauthier affiliated with the U.S. post Office in Chelmsford. A son son-in-law Atty. Maurice P. Mason, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Rene was predeceased by his precious daughter Louise Claire Mason, his grandson John Andrew Mason. His five brothers and their wives, Walter and Jeanne, Philippe and Rita, George and Therese (died) and Doris, Robert and Jacqueline and Arthur Gauthier. His four sisters Gertrude and Leon Gauthier, Annette and Henry Cornellier, Claire and Chanel Michaud and Therese Gauthier (all deceased).

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
