Mr. J. Donald Dumais, age 82, a longtime resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, died in Lowell on March 24, 2017 after a brief illness.  He was the loving husband of Claire M. (Barry) Dumais.   

Born in Lowell, on October 20, 1934, he was a son of the late Romeo and Emma (Lambert) Dumais.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.

Donald worked in the circulation department at The Lowell Sun for over thirty years.  After his retirement, he worked in the shipping department at Towers Auto Parts. 

He was a parishioner of the former Ste Jeanne d’Arc Church where he regularly volunteered his time at bingo and more recently of the Parish of Saint Rita where he attended the 10 o’clock mass on Sunday with his wife Claire.

Donald was also a longtime member of the Lowell Sun Spelling Bee committee.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, bowling, latch hooking and most importantly, spending time with his family.

Surviving him in addition to his loving wife Claire are six sons and two daughters in law, David Dumais, Richard Dumais, Robert Dumais, Roland Dumais all of Lowell, Gerald and Joanne Dumais of Dracut and Daniel Dumais and his wife Amy Ghisletta of Lafayette, CA; ten grandchildren, Ashley Nickerson and her husband Joseph, Jessica, Corey, Nathan, Grace, Jacob, Tyler, Claudia, Giulia and Anthony; a daughter in law, Sherrie Dumais of Dracut; two sisters in law, Jeanne Dumais of Ohio and Lorraine Gaudette of Springfield, MA; two brothers in law and a sister in law, Gerald and Catherine Barry of Chicago and Walter Burns of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late Paul Dumais, brother of the late Leo Dumais and brother in law of the late Jeannette Burns.

 

DUMAIS – died in Lowell on March 24th.  Mr. J. Donald Dumais, age 82, a resident of Lowell and the husband of Claire M. (Barry) Dumais.  Relatives and friends may call at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Monday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Funeral Tuesday morning with a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Rita, 158 Mammoth Road, Lowell.
