Gertrude “Gert” Marie (Roux) Landry

Loving wife, mother and grandmother

Mrs. Gertrude “Gert” Marie (Roux) Landry (89) of Lowell passed peacefully on January 16, 2018.  Beloved wife of Earl J. Landry, celebrating their 64th anniversary on December 6, 2017.  Gert was born on June 2, 1928, one of twelve children, to Arthur Joseph and Georgianna (Forbes) Roux.  She graduated from the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, class of 1946, and became lifelong friends with classmates Madalyn “Sookey” (Powers) McLaughlin of Tewksbury, Pauline (McDonough) Gorham of Chelmsford and Shirley (Wood) Maliszewski of Lowell.  With and without their spouses, they enjoyed over 60 years of card parties and traveling together.  Gert also attended Lowell Commercial College before working at Robertson Furniture Co. in Lowell.  She later enjoyed many years at Wang Laboratories, in Tewksbury, soldering circuits, and as a part-time sales clerk at Fanny Farmer Candies in downtown Lowell.  Gert enjoyed sewing, traveling, reading (especially The Lowell Sun), but most of all, spending time with her two grandsons.  She always had a funny story to tell and a kind heart that she shared with so many.  Besides her beloved husband, Gert is survived by her adored son Earl J. Landry Jr. of Lowell and daughter Sandra J. Tainter and husband Glenn of Virginia, cherished grandsons Glenn and Adam (to whom she was known as “Meme”), sisters Teresa Harkins of Nashua and Patricia “Patsy” Touhy of Lowell, sister-in-law Claire Roux of Lowell, many nieces, nephews, and close friends.  A heartfelt thank you is also extended to the many friends and staff at Palm Center, Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, in Chelmsford.
