Mr. Arthur E. Clare, Jr., age 84, a resident of Hudson, NH and a former longtime resident of Arlington, MA, died at the Windham Terrace on September 3, 2017 after a decade-long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  He was the husband of the late Mary Nan (McAuliffe) Clare.   

Born in Arlington, on June 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Arthur E. Clare, Sr. and Ruth E. (Sumner) Clare.

He was educated in the Arlington school system and was a graduate of Arlington High School.

Arthur was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, having served from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1959.

After returning home from the service, Arthur began a plumbing business in the Arlington area.  He later became employed by the Town of Arlington until his retirement.

Known for his contagious smile, big blue eyes and great sense of humor, Arthur always enjoyed social gatherings and sharing a barstool with his family and friends. He was very adventurous and loved skydiving, scuba diving, skiing at Tuckerman's Ravine, boating, golfing poorly, and was an avid Red Sox fan.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 39 in Arlington, the Arlington Lodge of Elks #1435 and served as Master for the Hiram Lodge A.F & A.M.

He is survived by his son, Doug Clare of Hudson, NH; two granddaughters, Rori Clare and Taryn Clare; two sisters, Ruth Enchelmeyer of Lemon Grove, CA and Myrtle Blanchard of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Jeanne Fletcher and Bette Benton.

 

CLARE – Arthur E.
